We are currently seeking to recruit for three positions all based in our head office in Basildon.


The positions include Trading Underwriter, Household Underwriter (New Business) and Household Underwriter (Existing Business).


Position - Trading Underwriter


Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining Broker relationships to support sustainable growth and performance of the Prestige Underwriting Home products.


Purpose:


• Build and maintain relationships with Brokers to support sustainable growth and performance of Prestige Underwriting Home product range.

Main Duties:


• Outbound activity, initiating and maintaining contact with brokers currently holding a Prestige Underwriting agency.
• Ensuring that brokers are kept fully up-to-date with Prestige Underwriting risk appetite and product range.
• Monitor and report on agreed KPI’s across an allocated panel of Brokers.
• Provide Brokers with timely and regular updates in terms of performance of their account.
• Obtain ongoing feedback from Brokers as to their views of Prestige Underwriting, sharing these views internally and where possible using them as an impetus for proposals for change to maximise both new and existing opportunities.
• Regularly review and keep abreast of market activity, sharing details across internal teams and using to drive positive change.
• Underwrite both new and existing business from Prestige Underwriting Home brokers.


General Duties:


• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including health and safety procedures.
• Carry out any other duties/ functions deemed necessary by the Underwriting Manager for the effective operation of the department.

The successful applicant must meet the following essential criteria:

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths and English (or equivalent).
• This will be waived in lieu of extensive related experience.

Experience:
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Home Underwriting Capacity.
• GB Household product knowledge.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.


Personal Attributes:


• Highly numerate and analytical with a high degree of business acumen, with the ability to accurately analyse high levels of data.
• Ability to communicate, negotiate and influence effectively at all levels using a variety of media.
• An effective, willing and enthusiastic team player.
• Self-motivated with the ability to act on own initiative.
• Ability to prioritise workload and deal with unexpected set-backs by identifying alternative solutions.
• Possesses the energy, enthusiasm and ability to work within a demanding environment that requires a hands-on approach.


The criteria below is desirable:

Qualifications:

• Working towards, or in possession of Cert CII or Dip CII.

Experience:

• Experience working within an insurance trading environment and customer facing role.
• Experience working within an insurance underwriting environment.
• Experience using insurance related systems.

The company have the right to increase the essential criteria where a large number of candidates meet both the essential and desirable criteria.

 

Positions – Household Underwriter (New Business Team) and Household Underwriter (Existing Business Team).


Reporting to the Underwriting Team Leader, the successful applicants will be responsible for analysing risk, determining policy terms, calculating premiums, maintaining business, identifying and writing profitable business.

Purpose:


• Analysing risk in insurance proposals, determining policy terms and calculating premiums on the basis of actuarial, statistical and background information.
• Identifying and writing profitable business in support of the Company’s achievement of its overall business objectives.

Main Duties:

• Assessing standard and non-standard underwriting information.
• Offering appropriate quotations and acceptance of risks.
• Retention of existing Broker base.
• Ensuring all underwriting is conducted within Authority limits.
• Reviewing referred claims.
• Responding to complaints in a timely and efficient manner.
• Maintaining regular contact with trading partners and acting professionally at all times.
• Ensuring that trading standards are being met.
• Liaising with Accounts Department to assist with collection of premiums.
• Monitoring and keeping up to date with technical and regulatory matters and act accordingly.

All Positions - Remuneration and Conditions of Employment:


• Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
• Hours of work; Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
